Péter Lakatos, who has been actively involved in the activity of the Confederation for several years, and has been co-president for the past 4 years, was unanimously elected for a four-year term at the renewal general assembly held on 15 May.

"There is no successful country without a successful economy!" – quoted the new President the motto, who thanked the members for their trust and confidence and briefly outlined his current priorities for BusinessHungary:

Expert role: BusinessHungary should continue to be a professional voice with proven track record on issues concerning economic policy-making.

Representation of interests: Advocacy of employers’ interests, in particular of BusinessHungary’s corporate members and member organisations, in a firm and constructive manner, participating in bi- and tripartite negotiations and fora with the government and trade unions.

Cooperation: Strengthen cooperation with member organisations representing the different sectors of the economy, disseminating best practices across industries.

Expanding the constituency: Facilitate the integration of FDIs operating in Hungary into the domestic value chain, also through the diversification of membership, thus contributing to the improvement of the country's competitiveness and growth.

Integration, convergence: As the Hungarian member of BusinessEurope, represent the interests of the European and Hungarian economy with special attention to Hungarian companies in the international arena.

Fight against bureaucracy: BusinessHungary should take firm and systematic actions against excessive or unnecessary regulations both in Hungary and on the EU level.

Developing and promoting Hungary as a preferred location for business: Actively contribute to making Hungary a competitive business location, well integrating into the European community, as well as a globally attractive investment location.

The General Assembly thanked the outgoing President, Dr. Péter Futó, for his work on behalf of Hungarian business over the past 16 years and elected him Honorary President.

** The Confederation of Hungarian Employers and Industrialists (MGYOSZ-BusinessHungary), founded in 1902, represents the interests of Hungarian economic actors. MGYOSZ represents nearly 8,000 medium and large enterprises from all sectors of industry, trade, and services, as well as some 40 professional and trade associations.
